Julie's methodically crafted vessels and sculptural works are characterised by her distinctive and innovative approach to the enduring technique of coil building.
Predominately Julie utilises the medium of Porcelain, working slowly and methodically to investigate the subtleties and complexities of pattern and texture. Inspiration comes from the natural environment as well as textiles and basketry.
Line in its many forms plays an important role. In essence the approach is to build 'line by line', whereby the making process is very evident and integral to the work. These textured lines of clay are not dissimilar to thread or yarn, giving sense of softness and movement to the otherwise hard clay surface.
